The U.S. Copyright office issued it’s statement of policy effective March 16, 2023 clarifying that AI generated work cannot be copyrighted.
Where the work contains human authored portion and AI generated portion, the human authored portion can be copyrighted. The link to the policy is below. Pdf file is also attached.
